After completing his studies, he went to the United States. He was ordained a priest on February 7, 1993, in the Croatian parish of St. Cyril and Methodius in New York. Following his ordination, he continued his pastoral work in the same parish. During his time in New York, he pursued postgraduate studies at St. John’s University, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Theology.

In 1996, he was assigned to the Croatian parish of St. Jerome in Chicago, where he assumed the role of pastor in August 2001, a position he held until early 2013. In September 2012, Fr. Jozo became the Custos of the Croatian Franciscan Custody of the Holy Family.

In 2022, he was elected Provincial of the Herzegovinian Franciscan Province of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

From September 1999 to March 2001, he served as a spiritual director and co-educator of seminarians in Humac. From March 2001 to October 2002, he assisted in Medjugorje.

From October 2002 to June 2005, he studied Mariology in Rome and earned a master’s degree at the Pontifical Theological Faculty Marianum with the thesis “The Virgin Mary in Her Intellectual and Spiritual Formation.”

From June 2005, he served as deputy novice master and head of postulants, and from August 2005 he was a member of the Council for Formation and Education. From August 2007 he was a chaplain in the Medjugorje parish, and from August 2013 he served as chaplain in the parish of Čitluk. After that, in 2016, he became the guardian of the Franciscan Monastery of St. Peter and Paul in Mostar.

In 2025, Fra Danko Perutina comes to serve as parish priest in Čitluk.

As a deacon, he began his ministry in Medjugorje, and since his priestly ordination, he has served in the same parish as parochial vicar until August 2022, when he assumed the role of parish priest of Medjugorje.

Since 1975, he has been at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome, where he completed post-graduate studies in Theology and Canon Law. He served in several apostolic nunciatures as a Secretary and in the Secretariat of State of the Holy See. He was ordained a bishop on August 26, 1996, in the Cathedral of Bergamo. He has served as Apostolic Nuncio in Chile, Colombia, Malta, and Libya, and since March 21, 2015, he has been the Apostolic Nuncio to the Netherlands and the Permanent Representative of the Holy See at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

-The Press Office of the Holy See announced on November 27, 2021, that Pope Francis had appointed Archbishop Mons. Aldo Cavalli, titular Archbishop of Vibo Valentia (Vibo Valentia – lat. Dioecesis Vibonensis), until then the Apostolic Nuncio to the Netherlands, as the Apostolic Visitor with a special role for the Parish of Medjugorje, for an indefinite period and ad nutum Sanctae Sedis.

This is a continuation of the mission that Archbishop Henryk Hoser, S.A.C., carried out in Medjugorje, who passed away on August 13, 2021, in Warsaw.

-On the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes (February 11, 2022), the new Apostolic Visitor with a special role for the Parish of Međugorje, Archbishop Mons. Aldo Cavalli, titular Archbishop of Vibo Valentia, and the former Apostolic Nuncio to the Netherlands, arrived in Međugorje.

His first Holy Mass with the parishioners and pilgrims in Međugorje was celebrated by Archbishop Cavalli on February 13, 2022, at 11:00 AM in St. James Church in Medjugorje.
